2017 Carter Center Human Rights Defenders Forum, Part 5/6

On May 6-9, 2017, more than 70 activists, scholars, and community leaders came together to discuss ways to protect human rights in an era of rising authoritarianism during the Carter Center's annual Human Rights Defenders Forum, “Freedom from Fear: Securing Rights in Challenging Times.”

The forum put a spotlight on some of the obstacles human rights defenders are facing as governments in many countries clamp down on public debate and activism. It also showcased the experiences of the courageous women and men on the front lines of this fight.
